Bond, the international development body for development organisations, will host a special event on 15 September with Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for International Development. The event will be the first time Nick Clegg speaks in public on the issues of development and the Millennium Development Goals since becoming Deputy Prime Minister in May.
In 2000, world leaders set out eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to be achieved by 2015. If met, these goals would transform the lives of billions people.
Mr Clegg and Mr Mitchell will represent the UK later this month at the critical United Nations MDG Review meeting in New York, in which leaders will examine the progress of the MDGs. At the hand-in event, Mr Clegg and Mr Mitchell will speak about the UK Government's priorities for the UN meeting and its approach to meeting the UK's commitments to the Goals.
From 6 September, you can take part in a conversation about the UK’s contribution to the MDGs using the Twitter hash tag #bondmdgs. A few questions from the public will be selected to be asked on the day.
As a member of Bond, UNICEF UK will be present at the event, and we will present the signatures from our campaign petition calling on Nick Clegg to secure decisive action on water and sanitation at the UN meeting.
