A new online simulation, which gives you the opportunity to decide how we can defeat climate change by 2050, has launched.
My2050 asks you how to calculate the country’s energy demands and reduce carbon emissions by 2050.
It was produced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The website aims to make clear the choices countries face when trying to tackle climate change, and still produce enough energy. Your entry will be submitted to the DECC, so the Government will know what you want the future to look like.
Whether you want to build more nuclear power stations, move everyone to electric cars, or put solar panels on every roof, the choice is yours – as long as you can hit the 2050 target to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne said: “This project is all about getting to grips with the hard choices and trade-offs which need to be made, choices which will affect our homes, communities and the way we travel. We can’t afford to leave it till tomorrow – so get involved today.”
As well as using the My2050 simulation, you can also try the 2050 Calculator, which gives you a more detailed look at the UK’s energy and emissions system.
