What do a Baroness, ROCK and children and young people have in common?

Very little you might think! However, keen Taggers might recall that in November, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), Baroness Joan Walmsley introduced the Children’s Rights Bill to Parliament, with the backing of a coalition with a musical name (ROCK, the Rights of the Child UK Coalition).

The aim of the bill and of the coalition is to make the CRC part of UK law. Now it’s YOUR turn to make some noise and put pressure on the Government so that the CRC becomes reality, 19 year after the UK Government signed up to it!

The Bill is expected to be debated in the House of Lords in early March 2010 and you can make sure politicians know that children and young people care about it by writing to the Children’s Minister, Ed Balls, asking him to support the Bill.

So, roll up your sleeves and get writing! To help you, the ROCK campaign and Tagd have created a template letter with some ideas of what you can say to make your argument strong and clearly presented. You can download the letter, but remember the more personal you make it, the better! Print it out and send it to the address in the letter.
