Last week we met Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne to hand in our Get Children Climate Ready campaign photo petition.
Huhne is about to attend an important meeting where the Government will plan for UN talks on climate change this November - so now is an important time to talk about protecting children from climate change.
Frances, a UNICEF UK campaigner, travelled from Norwich to attend the hand in. She said: "I think it's really important that the UK Government is aware that so many people care about climate change and the effects it is having on children."
Our campaign calls on the government to help children in less developed countries adapt to climate change. This could be done by taxing the banks through the Robin Hood Tax and by taxing harmful fuels used in ships and planes.
An amazing 14,000 people signed up, and our campaigners Harry, Fran, Jo and Rachel presented Huhne with a book containing these signatures.
Chatting with our campaigners, Huhne said it was vital for children to be taught about climate change, as they have an important role in telling their families about the effects it is having on our world.
UNICEF UK Climate Change Officer Jazmin Burgess, who was also at the hand-in, said Chris Huhne needed to put the Robin Hood Tax and a tax on shipping and planes really high on the agenda at his meeting. "This is the first step in building a safer future for children threatened by climate change," she said.
