Shoe Biz Appeal

UNICEF and the shoe retailers Clarks have teamed up to raise funds for education projects worldwide by asking people across the UK to donate their old shoes.

More than 550 Clarks stores nationwide have set up collection points where people can drop in their old or unwanted footwear.

All the shoes will be recycled and converted into cash for the 'Clarks and UNICEF Shoe Biz Appeal'. All the money raised through the Shoe Biz Appeal will be used to fund UNICEF's education projects.

The funds will allow UNICEF to provide safe learning environments for children across the world, to provide boys and girls with equal learning opportunities, and to supply schools with educational materials and sports kits.

Also, the funds will be used to hire teachers, register children and provide educational materials in countries affected by conflict or natural disasters.

The Shoe Biz Appeal has been running since November 2006 when the money raised went to a project called 'Children's Corners' in Malawi. Last year the appeal collected 330,000 pairs of shoes and raised over £57,000 for UNICEF.

What your shoes can provide

  • One pair of shoes can provide a pencil and a notebook for a child
  • 84 pairs of shoes could buy 300 exercise books, enough for 150 children for a year

If you have shoes that you no longer want or don't wear anymore why not deposit them in your nearest Shoe Biz bin?

Find your nearest participating Clarks store and donate your old shoes to help children's lives across the world.

Play the Children's Corner game.
