Download the activity pack for Brownies or Guides and the Changing the World infosheet and you’ll have everything you need to get started with your project.
UNICEF UK has joined 18 other organisations to offer inspiration and opportunities to members of Girlguiding UK to learn more about the issues they care about, and take action.
UNICEF UK's project is all about saying yes - to talking about and taking action on HIV and AIDS. There are two fun-filled activity packs for guiding Leaders to choose from. One is for Brownies and younger Guides and the other is for older Guides and Senior Section members.
All the activities are entirely age appropriate. But we understand that talking about HIV and AIDS can be a sensitive topic so we've drafted a template
parental/guardian information letter for you to use. There's also a
Changing the World infosheet with everything you need to know about HIV and AIDS.
As part of the project you might like to raise funds for UNICEF's HIV and AIDS work. Take a look at a selection of Inspired Gifts your guiding group could buy with the funds you raise.
Competition details
Part of the Just Say Yes Changing the World challenge is a chance for your group to win the opportunity to work with us to turn their campaign into a national one on the Tagd or World Explorers website (depending on the age of your group). All you need to do to enter is tell us about your activities by completing and returning the campaign feedback form. All entries must be received by midnight on 30 June 2009.
Useful hints and links
If you feel like you'd like to learn more about HIV and AIDS before you get started, take a look at these helpful websites:
For the older Guides and Senior Section pack:
- The Thembi's diary activity is a great one to give your group a unique experience to really consider the real life experience of a young HIV positive woman from South Africa. You can also download an audio version of Thembi's AIDS Diary. If you have trouble downloading the file you can print off a transcript and get the girls in your group to take turns reading parts out - this works really well!
