Young UNICEF volunteers working on the HIV campaign in 2007.
UNICEF UK/2007
This is the most important part of your whole campaign. Without proper research, fact-checking, speaking to the right people, contacting the proper authorities and so on, your campaign will simply collapse – making you look insincere and frankly a little bit silly! If you are going to launch a campaign then you need to know why you are campaigning and what you want to achieve.
You need to research the problem - why does it make you angry? Be clear why this is a problem! It is not good enough to say "it's not fair".
Most importantly what is the solution? If there's not enough for young people to do in the area then a possible solution is an improved youth centre. If the problem is that millions of children are missing school around the world because they can't afford school fees, then the solution is for governments to press for free education.
It is a good idea to focus your campaign on one person within the organisation you are targeting. It could be the leader of your local council or the Prime Minister. It depends on the issue. Remember, they have been elected to represent you!
