Your right to life:
Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been signed and ratified by every country in the world except Somalia and the USA, every child has the right to life, survival and development.
What the CRC says:
- Governments should make sure that children survive and develop healthily.
- You have a right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet your physical and mental needs. The government should help families who cannot afford to provide this.
- The government should provide extra money for the children of families in need, to help them get their right to a decent standard of living.
Do all children get their right to life?
Poverty is the main cause of the deaths of millions of children every year. The Millennium Development Goals aim to cut the number of children who die before their fifth birthday, but the world isn't doing enough to make sure this happens.
