The right to be treated equally:

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that every child has all of the rights it contains, no matter who they are or where they come from.

What the CRC says:

  • The Convention applies to everyone whatever their race, religion, abilities, whatever they think or say, whatever type of family they come from.
  • If you are a child who has come into a country as a refugee, you should have the same rights as children born in that country.
  • If you have a disability, you should receive special care and support so that you can live a full and independent life.

Do all children get their right to equality?
Children born in poverty don't get the same chances in life. Discrimination means that girls are more likely to miss out on their education, as are children who have disabilities or who come from different ethnic backgrounds. Children who are displaced from their homes by war or disasters often miss out on their rights.
